Trek Overview

The Sagala Trek, also affectionately known as the 'Haa Planters' Trail', follows an ancient path once used by rice planters from Haa Valley who journeyed to Paro to assist in the planting and harvesting of rice. This relatively unknown trail is steeped in cultural history and natural beauty, offering an immersive experience into Bhutan's serene wilderness.

Nestled in western Bhutan, the Haa Valley remains one of the least-visited regions in the country, making this three-day trek a true off-the-beaten-path adventure. The trail weaves through lush alpine meadows, untouched forests teeming with biodiversity, and remote mountain ridges that separate Haa from Paro. Along the way, trekkers are treated to sweeping views of the Haa Valley, the three sacred hills of Haa, and on clear days, dramatic vistas of Bhutan's iconic peaks such as Mount Jhomolhari and Mount Drageygang.

You'll also pass through charming villages with just a few households and have the opportunity to engage with nomadic yak herders, gaining insight into a traditional way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries. Golf Tour

Tee off at the world's highest golf course — with the majestic Tashicho Dzong as your backdrop.

📅 6 Days · 5 Nights 📍 Thimphu · Paro ⛳ 7,700+ ft elevation 🌤 April–May & Sep–Nov
Tour Overview

The Bhutan Golf Tour is a one-of-a-kind and exclusive event, managed by Bhutan By Experts. The primary reason for this exclusivity is that Bhutan boasts a prestigious golf course that is not widely known to golf enthusiasts worldwide. We aim to invite golfers from all over the world to discover and experience the unique charm of this hidden gem.

While Bhutan hosts many national tournaments dedicated to our Monarchs, these events typically feature only local players, which means new faces are rarely seen. Golf is a sport that commands great respect, much like Bhutan itself — an exotic destination. We want to bring golfers from other countries to enjoy the fresh Himalayan air and experience the joy and happiness that Bhutan offers.

The Royal Thimphu Golf Club is the only public golf course in Bhutan. Set above the Thimphu Tashicho Dzong, a fortress built in the 17th century, it serves as the summer capital for Bhutan's Central Monastic Body, headed by the Chief Abbot of Bhutan, as well as housing several government ministries. The Dzong also serves as the throne room for His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

This delightful 9-hole, Par 35 course can also be played as an 18-hole, Par 70 course, covering 5,851 yards from two sets of tees. At over 7,700 feet above sea level, it is considered to be the highest golf course in the world. While the Bhutan Golf Tour isn't ordinary golfing elsewhere, it offers an unforgettable experience. Imagine teeing off with the majestic Bhutanese Dzong in view and navigating around chorten hazards — small shrines where people leave precious stones for the gods. The course itself features hardpan fairways, ponds resembling sunken bathtubs, bunkers, and the distinctive Bhutanese chortens. Either sign up for the upcoming tournaments or simply join for casual play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you have ever wanted to know about travelling to Bhutan with us

About Us

Because we are not a booking platform — we are people who live here, breathe Bhutan every day, and genuinely care about your experience. When you travel with us you get authentic access, not a packaged itinerary pulled from a template.

We offer premium, deeply personalised service rooted in humble beginnings. Our team started with a passion for sharing Bhutan and grew through word of mouth — every guest who returns or refers a friend is a testament to what we do. Your journey will be unlike anyone else's, crafted specifically around who you are and what moves you.

Most operators sell fixed packages. We do not. Every itinerary we create is built from scratch for each traveller. We take time to understand your pace, your interests, your group dynamics — and then we design something that fits you perfectly.

We also stay with you throughout the journey. Our guides are local experts, not subcontracted strangers. Your experience will feel personal because it is — from the first message you send us to the moment you board your flight home.

Yes, we are a fully licensed inbound tour operator registered in Bhutan and approved by the Tourism Council of Bhutan. All arrangements — visas, permits, SDF payments, accommodation, and guides — are handled officially and legally on your behalf.

Planning Your Trip

We recommend reaching out at least 2–3 months before your intended travel date, especially if you plan to travel during festival season (Paro Tshechu in March–April, Punakha Tshechu in February–March). Hotels and flights fill up quickly during peak periods.

That said, we have arranged exceptional last-minute trips in as little as two weeks — so never hesitate to reach out regardless of your timeline.

Absolutely — that is the core of what we do. Whether you want to spend a week meditating in a remote monastery, embark on a multi-day trek through the Himalayas, attend a festival, visit a farm, or simply explore at a slow and gentle pace — we will build it around you.

We will propose an itinerary, you give us feedback, and we refine it until it is exactly right. There is no limit on revisions.

Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) are the most popular seasons — clear skies, spectacular mountain views, and many of Bhutan's biggest festivals fall in these windows.

Winter is beautiful, cold, and quiet — ideal for those who prefer solitude and the chance to see the rare black-necked cranes in Phobjikha Valley. Summer (June–August) brings the monsoon, lush green landscapes, and far fewer tourists. Every season has its own magic.

Yes — we handle all visa and permit arrangements on your behalf. Bhutan requires that all international visitors (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) enter through a licensed tour operator, and we manage this process end-to-end. You will receive your visa approval before you travel.

Costs & Practicalities

The SDF is a daily fee charged by the Bhutanese government to all international visitors. It currently stands at USD 100 per person per night. This fee directly funds Bhutan's free healthcare and education system, conservation efforts, and the country's commitment to remaining carbon-negative.

We include the SDF in your tour cost and handle all payments on your behalf.

Our packages typically include all accommodation, meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), a dedicated private guide, private transportation with a driver, all entry fees to monuments and sites, and the SDF.

International flights are usually not included, though we can advise on the best options and connect you with trusted partners. Personal expenses, travel insurance, and tips are also not included.

Not at all. While Bhutan does have a minimum daily spend requirement (the SDF), accommodation itself can range from comfortable three-star properties to world-class luxury resorts like Amankora or Six Senses. We work with guests at every level and find the right balance for your budget.

The experience — the landscapes, the culture, the people — is equally magnificent regardless of which hotel you stay in.

On the Ground

Yes. Every guest travels with a dedicated licensed Bhutanese guide who accompanies you throughout your entire journey. Your guide is not just a navigator — they are your cultural interpreter, your storyteller, and often the person who turns a good trip into an unforgettable one.

Bhutan is one of the safest countries in the world to visit. Crime is extremely low, the people are warm and welcoming, and the small scale of tourism means you are never lost in a crowd. Our team is reachable 24/7 throughout your stay for any support you need.

We would love to hear from you. Reach us on WhatsApp at +975 77418869, by email at bhutanbyexperts@gmail.com, or through our enquiry form. We respond personally — not through a call centre — and we are always happy to talk.

Paro Airport

Visa & Entry Requirements

Everything you need to know about entering the Kingdom of Bhutan

Bhutan does not issue visas on arrival. All visitors — with the exception of Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals — must obtain a visa in advance through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator like Bhutan by Experts.

Who Needs a Visa?

Citizens of all countries except India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives require a Bhutan Tourist Visa. The visa is processed electronically and we handle the entire application on your behalf — you simply need to provide a scanned copy of your passport and a passport-sized photograph.

Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian citizens may enter Bhutan with a valid passport or voter ID card without a pre-arranged visa, though a tour operator is still strongly recommended for logistics and permits.

The Visa Process

  • Share your passport copy and photo with us at least 10 days before arrival
  • We submit your visa application to the Tourism Council of Bhutan on your behalf
  • Visa approval is issued electronically — you receive a visa clearance letter
  • Present the clearance letter at the point of entry (Paro Airport or land borders)
  • Your physical visa stamp is affixed upon arrival in Bhutan

Visa Fee

The Bhutan visa costs USD 40 per person and is paid as part of your overall tour package. This fee is non-negotiable and set by the Royal Government of Bhutan.

Entry Points

  • Paro International Airport — the only international airport, served by Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines
  • Phuentsholing — land border crossing from Jaigaon, West Bengal, India
  • Samdrup Jongkhar — land border crossing from Assam, India
  • Gelephu — land border crossing from Assam, India (seasonal)

Passport Requirements

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Bhutan. Ensure you have at least one blank page for the visa stamp.

We handle it all. When you book with Bhutan by Experts, we manage your visa application from start to finish. Simply send us your documents and we take care of the rest — giving you one less thing to worry about before your trip.

Best Time to Visit

Bhutan is beautiful year-round — but each season offers a different kind of magic

Bhutan has four distinct seasons, each with its own character and appeal. There is truly no bad time to visit — only different kinds of beauty. The best time for you depends on what you want to experience.

🌸 Spring — March to May (Peak Season)

Spring is widely considered the finest time to visit Bhutan. Rhododendrons burst into colour across the hillsides, the skies are clear, temperatures are mild, and mountain views are spectacular. The famous Paro Tsechu festival falls in spring — one of the most vibrant and visually stunning events in the Bhutanese calendar.

  • Ideal temperatures: 10°C–25°C in valleys
  • Rhododendrons and wildflowers in full bloom
  • Clear skies with excellent Himalayan views
  • Paro Tsechu festival (March/April)
  • Perfect for trekking and photography

☁️ Summer / Monsoon — June to August

The monsoon season brings lush green landscapes and dramatically reduced crowds. While rain is frequent — particularly in the afternoons — mornings are often clear and the valleys glow an intense emerald green. Prices are lower and the country feels refreshingly quiet.

  • Lush, dramatic green scenery
  • Fewer tourists and lower costs
  • Rain mostly in afternoons, mornings often clear
  • Not ideal for high-altitude trekking (trails can be slippery)
  • Wildflowers and waterfalls at their most impressive

🍂 Autumn — September to November (Peak Season)

Autumn rivals spring as Bhutan's most popular season. The monsoon rains have washed the sky crystal clear, offering some of the best mountain panoramas of the year. The Thimphu and Wangdue Tsechu festivals take place during this season, and the harvest colours across the valleys are stunning.

  • Crystal-clear skies and exceptional mountain views
  • Ideal temperatures for trekking and exploration
  • Thimphu Tsechu and Wangdue Tsechu festivals
  • Rich harvest colours across the valleys
  • The best time for the Snowman Trek

❄️ Winter — December to February

Winter in Bhutan is cold but beautiful — and dramatically underrated. Lower altitude valleys remain accessible and mild, snow dusts the higher passes, and the monasteries and dzongs take on an austere, timeless quality. Bird-watching is excellent, crowds are minimal, and the black-necked cranes migrate to Phobjikha Valley.

  • Very few tourists — a peaceful, authentic experience
  • Black-necked crane migration in Phobjikha Valley
  • Excellent bird-watching season
  • Cold but dry — valleys remain accessible
  • Lower prices and more flexible availability

Our recommendation: For first-time visitors, spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November) offer the most rounded experience. For those seeking something different — the monsoon's green magic or winter's quiet solitude — we have crafted beautiful itineraries for every season.

SDF & Tourism Policy

Understanding Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee and high-value, low-impact tourism

Bhutan's approach to tourism is unique in the world. Rather than maximizing visitor numbers, the Kingdom prioritizes quality over quantity — ensuring that tourism benefits the Bhutanese people and preserves the natural and cultural heritage for generations to come.

What is the SDF?

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily fee charged to all international visitors to Bhutan. It was revised in September 2022 to USD 100 per person per night for most international visitors. This fee is collected by the Tourism Council of Bhutan and goes directly into a government fund dedicated to:

  • Environmental conservation and carbon neutrality programmes
  • Free healthcare for all Bhutanese citizens
  • Free education from primary through university level
  • Cultural preservation and heritage restoration
  • Rural infrastructure and community development

Current SDF Rate: USD 100 per person per night for most international visitors. SAARC nationals (India, Bangladesh, Maldives, etc.) pay a reduced rate. The SDF is paid as part of your tour package — we handle all payment and documentation.

What Does Your SDF Include?

The SDF is separate from — and in addition to — your tour package costs. However, it is worth understanding that your overall package already includes:

  • Accommodation in your chosen category of hotel
  • All three meals daily (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Licensed English-speaking guide throughout your trip
  • Private transportation with driver
  • All monument entry fees
  • Airport transfers

Why We Believe in This Model

We are proud to operate within Bhutan's tourism framework. The SDF model ensures that when you visit Bhutan, your presence has a genuinely positive impact. You are not just a tourist — you are a contributor to the wellbeing of a nation that has chosen happiness over GDP as its measure of success.

Bhutan remains one of the few countries that is carbon negative — it absorbs more carbon than it produces. Tourism, managed responsibly, helps fund this commitment.

Paro Town

Getting to Bhutan

Flights, entry points, and what to expect on arrival

The journey to Bhutan is itself an experience. The approach to Paro International Airport — threading between Himalayan peaks at 7,300 feet — is consistently rated one of the most breathtaking landings in the world.

Flying to Bhutan

Paro International Airport (PBH) is the only international airport in Bhutan and one of the most challenging airports in the world to fly into — only a small number of pilots are certified to land here. Two airlines operate international flights:

  • Druk Air (Royal Bhutan Airlines) — the national carrier, operating from Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Kathmandu, Singapore, and more
  • Bhutan Airlines — operates routes from Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, and Kathmandu

Major Gateway Cities

  • Bangkok (BKK) — popular gateway for visitors from Asia, Australia, and beyond
  • Delhi (DEL) — closest major hub for visitors from Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas
  • Kolkata (CCU) — short flight from India's eastern cities
  • Kathmandu (KTM) — combine Bhutan with a Nepal visit
  • Singapore (SIN) — convenient for Southeast Asian travellers
  • Mumbai (BOM) — gateway for western India visitors

Tip: Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines flights book up quickly during peak season (March–May, September–November). We recommend booking flights at least 3–4 months in advance for popular travel dates, especially festival periods.

Overland Entry from India

Visitors — particularly Indian nationals and those already travelling in India — can enter Bhutan overland through three main border crossings:

  • Phuentsholing (from Jaigaon, West Bengal) — most commonly used land border
  • Samdrup Jongkhar (from Assam) — access to eastern Bhutan
  • Gelephu (from Assam) — access to central Bhutan

Arriving at Paro Airport

Our team will meet you at arrivals with a welcome sign. We handle your bags, complete any arrival formalities, and introduce you to your guide and driver. The journey from Paro Airport to Paro town takes about 10 minutes, or approximately 1.5 hours to Thimphu.

Snow Mountains

Health & Safety

Staying well and safe throughout your Bhutan journey

Bhutan is a very safe country with extremely low crime rates. The main health consideration for visitors is altitude, as Bhutan sits at elevations ranging from 200m in the south to over 7,000m in the north.

Altitude & Acclimatization

Paro sits at approximately 2,200m (7,220 ft) and Thimphu at 2,320m (7,610 ft). While most visitors acclimatize comfortably within a day or two, it is important to take altitude seriously, especially if you plan to trek to higher elevations.

  • Arrive well-rested and hydrated
  • Take it easy on your first day — avoid strenuous activity
  • Drink plenty of water and limit alcohol initially
  • Ascend gradually if trekking to higher elevations
  • Symptoms of altitude sickness: headache, nausea, fatigue — descend if severe
  • Consult your doctor about acetazolamide (Diamox) if prone to altitude sickness

Vaccinations

No vaccinations are mandatory for Bhutan (unless arriving from a yellow fever zone). However, we recommend consulting your doctor or travel health clinic about the following:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Typhoid
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria (routine booster)
  • Rabies (if planning extended rural stays)
  • Japanese Encephalitis (for monsoon travel to southern lowlands)

Bhutan's healthcare system is free for all citizens and accessible to visitors in emergencies. Paro and Thimphu have hospitals and clinics. However, for non-emergency care, medical facilities outside the main towns are limited — comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your trip. Your policy should include:

  • Medical coverage including emergency evacuation
  • Helicopter evacuation (essential for trekkers)
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment
  • Lost or delayed baggage
  • Coverage for adventure activities if trekking

Food & Water Safety

Bhutan is generally safe for food. Restaurants serving tourists maintain good hygiene standards. Drink bottled or boiled water and avoid ice from unknown sources. Your guide will advise you on safe dining throughout your trip.

Young Monks

Cultural Etiquette

Engaging respectfully with Bhutan's living culture and traditions

Bhutan is a deeply Buddhist kingdom where tradition, spirituality, and daily life are inseparable. Visitors are welcomed warmly — and a few simple customs observed respectfully go a long way in creating genuine connections.

Dress Code

Bhutan does not have a strict dress code for tourists — but modest, respectful dress is appreciated, especially when visiting religious sites:

  • Cover shoulders and knees when entering monasteries and dzongs
  • Remove shoes before entering temples and lhakhangs (shrines)
  • Avoid shorts and sleeveless tops in religious settings
  • Carry a light scarf or shawl — useful for impromptu monastery visits
  • Casual, comfortable clothing is perfectly appropriate elsewhere

At Monasteries & Temples

  • Always walk clockwise around chortens (stupas), prayer wheels, and monasteries
  • Ask permission before photographing monks, ceremonies, or altar rooms
  • Speak quietly and behave reverently inside religious buildings
  • Do not touch religious statues or offerings
  • Switch off your phone or set it to silent
  • Smoking and drinking alcohol are prohibited in and around religious sites

Photography

Bhutan is incredibly photogenic and most places welcome photography. Always ask before photographing people, especially monks and elderly Bhutanese. Some inner sanctuaries of monasteries prohibit photography — look for signs or ask your guide.

Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory in Bhutan but is warmly appreciated by guides and drivers who work hard to make your trip exceptional:

  • Guide: USD 15–30 per day is customary for excellent service
  • Driver: USD 8–15 per day
  • Restaurants: 10% if service charge is not included
  • Hotel staff: Small tips for porters and housekeeping are appreciated

Your guide is your cultural bridge. Our guides are not just route-planners — they are storytellers, interpreters of tradition, and genuine ambassadors of Bhutanese life. They will coach you through every cultural nuance so you always feel confident and at ease.

Currency & Budget

Money matters — what to expect when it comes to costs in Bhutan

Bhutan uses the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN), which is pegged 1:1 to the Indian Rupee. Most tourist expenses are included in your package, leaving relatively little to pay out of pocket during your trip.

Currency

  • Official currency: Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN / Nu)
  • Indian Rupees (INR) are also widely accepted at 1:1 parity
  • USD, Euro, and major currencies can be exchanged at banks and the airport
  • Keep receipts for currency exchange for reconversion on departure

ATMs & Cards

ATMs are available in Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, and other major towns. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at ATMs, though international transaction fees may apply. Credit cards are accepted at larger hotels and some restaurants, but cash is king in smaller towns and markets.

Practical tip: Most of your major expenses (accommodation, meals, guide, transport) are already covered in your package. We recommend carrying USD 200–400 in cash for personal shopping, souvenirs, additional drinks, and tips.

What's Included vs. Extra

Included in your package:

  • Accommodation (your selected category)
  • All three meals daily
  • English-speaking guide
  • Private vehicle and driver
  • All monument entry fees
  • Airport transfers
  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)

Typically extra:

  • International flights to/from Bhutan
  • Travel insurance
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Personal shopping and souvenirs
  • Gratuities for guide and driver
  • Optional add-on activities (archery, farmhouse visits, etc.)

What to Pack

Pack smart for Bhutan — comfort, respect, and readiness for every altitude

Bhutan's terrain ranges from subtropical valleys to high alpine passes. What you pack depends on your activities and the season — but a few essentials apply to every traveller.

🧳 Essentials for All Visitors

  • Valid passport (6+ months validity) and printed visa clearance letter
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip
  • Modest clothing for monastery visits (covered shoulders and knees)
  • Light layering pieces — mornings and evenings can be cool year-round
  • Sun protection: high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
  • Personal medications and a small first-aid kit
  • Reusable water bottle (filtered water available at most hotels)
  • Universal power adapter (Bhutan uses Type D/G/F outlets)
  • Small backpack or day bag for excursions

🥾 Additional for Trekkers

  • Sturdy ankle-support trekking boots (well broken-in)
  • Moisture-wicking base layers and insulating mid-layers
  • Waterproof shell jacket and trousers
  • Trekking poles
  • Thermal underlayers for high-altitude nights
  • Sleeping bag (if camping — we can advise based on your itinerary)
  • Gaiters and camp sandals
  • Headlamp with spare batteries
  • Altitude sickness medication (consult your doctor)

❄️ Winter Additions (Dec–Feb)

  • Heavy down jacket or parka
  • Warm hat, gloves, and thermal socks
  • Thermal base layers for valleys (Thimphu can drop to 0°C at night)

🌧️ Monsoon Additions (Jun–Aug)

  • Lightweight, quick-dry clothing
  • Compact umbrella or waterproof poncho
  • Waterproof bag covers and dry bags for electronics
  • Insect repellent for lower-altitude areas

Travel light if you can. Bhutan's roads can be winding and luggage transfers between hotels are managed by our team. A main suitcase plus a small day bag is the ideal combination. If you're trekking, pack-horses carry your main gear — you only carry a day pack.

Honeymoon in Bhutan

Honeymoon in Bhutan

Experience Traditional Bhutanese Marriage in the World's Happiest Kingdom

Bhutan, celebrated for its Gross National Happiness Index, ranks as one of the happiest nations worldwide. In an era dominated by materialism and overt commercialization, Bhutan stands out for its unique approach.

In Bhutan, national progress and prosperity are evaluated based on the Gross Happiness Index, prioritizing the happiness and satisfaction of its citizens over Gross Domestic Product. Choosing to spend your honeymoon in a country where joy is the main focus will undoubtedly make your trip memorable.

Geographically situated between India and China, Bhutan is a small nation embraced by majestic Himalayan mountains, offering a distinctive holiday experience. Its commitment to sustainable practices has established it as one of the few carbon-neutral countries globally. Historically isolated, Bhutan has successfully preserved its culture and traditions from external influences, allowing modern technology — such as the internet and mobile phones — to enter only in the late 20th century (1999 and 2003).

Experiencing Bhutan feels like stepping into another world. Life here unfolds at a leisurely pace, with residents living in harmony with nature amidst traditional wooden homes and Buddhist monasteries. The absence of towering skyscrapers and fast-food outlets enhances the organic connection to the surrounding landscape. From the lush green expanses to the discernible absence of modernity and traffic congestion, Bhutan offers a tranquil and calming environment from the moment you arrive.

Ideal for nature enthusiasts and avid hikers, Bhutan also serves as a perfect spiritual retreat for those interested in Mahayana Buddhism, providing an opportunity to connect deeply with nature alongside your partner.

How to Plan a Honeymoon Vacation in Bhutan

To maintain the integrity of its culture and traditions, Bhutan limits outside influences and restricts tourism to prevent overtourism. Bhutan enforces several regulations for foreign visitors. Most regions of the country restrict independent travel, requiring a daily fee known as the Sustainable Development Fee for entry.

According to the Bhutanese government, this policy supports low-impact, high-quality sustainable tourism. To protect their delicate environment and culture, Bhutan imposes a cap on the number of visitors each year, making it an exclusive destination.

Given the limited areas available for independent exploration, booking your Bhutan honeymoon through a local tour agency is advisable. The agency will manage everything from visa applications to hotel accommodations and transportation, along with providing a licensed local guide for your journey.

While tourists can travel independently in Paro and Thimphu, entry to most monasteries and heritage sites requires the presence of a local guide. Therefore, having a guide during your travels in Bhutan is highly recommended.

You can plan your honeymoon trip any time of year, except during the summer or monsoon season. It is advisable to avoid summer due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. If you plan to trek, spring and autumn offer the most stable weather and stunning mountain visibility.

Make sure to book your flights to Bhutan ahead of time, as international flights are limited. Due to the mountainous terrain, only local carriers, Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines, are authorized to operate international flights.

Other highlights include historic forts like Paro Dzong, Dungtsi Lhakhang, and Ta Dzong, as well as Kyichu Lakhang and Drukyel Dzong Monastery. Be sure to explore local markets for souvenirs, and if you appreciate craft beer, visit the valley's artisanal breweries to sample unique brews.

A sacred, spiritual communion — an auspicious beginning to a lifetime of harmony

At Bhutan By Experts, we specialise in turning the extraordinary into the personal. A wedding in the Kingdom of Bhutan is not merely a ceremony; it is a sacred, spiritual communion — an auspicious beginning to a lifetime of harmony.

The Bhutanese Wedding: A Sacred Bond

In our tradition, a wedding is a series of profoundly beautiful religious rituals performed by Buddhist monks and lamas. These rites are designed to cleanse the soul, bind the couple in love, and invite lasting blessings from the deities.

The Ritual Procedure

01

Auspicious Timing

We consult with a Bhutanese astrologer to select the perfect date and time for your ceremony based on your birth charts, ensuring the cosmos aligns with your union.

02

Lhabsang — Purification

Held early on your wedding day, monks chant mantras and burn sacred incense to purify the ceremony space and seek approval from local deities.

03

Lighting of Butter Lamps

You will perform prostrations at a sacred altar before lighting 108 butter lamps, symbolising the illumination of your path together.

04

Thrisor — Spiritual Cleansing

A Head Lama performs this rite to purify your body, speech, and mind, ensuring you are spiritually prepared to receive the blessings of marriage.

05

Changphoed — The Binding Bond

You will share locally brewed Ara from a traditional wooden phoob (bowl), symbolising the oneness of your lives and the beginning of your shared journey.

06

Tsepamey Choko

A prayer to the God of Longevity, granting you blessings for a healthy, prosperous, and happy marriage that endures through all of life's seasons.

07

Dhar Nyanga

The ceremony concludes with the presentation of the five-coloured scarves, wishing you an everlasting, auspicious future together.
